German Bunker MarKo Esjberg

This bunker (presumably Rb 622 personnel bunker) was part of Stützpunkt MarKo (Stützpunkt Marine Kommando).

Right at the beginning of the German occupation of Denmark in April 1940, the headquarters of the Kriegsmarine established itself in Esbjerg harbour. Around the Hulvejen and the Havnegarde, several buildings were seized to serve as offices (Graf Spee Haus) and for housing. The headquarters was named: Stp. MarKo: the Stützpunkt Marine Kommando.

In the immediate vicinity of the headquarters, a complex of bunkers for command purposes, radio communications, personnel quarters and storage, among others, was built by the Orginisation Todt at short intervals. Some of the bunkers belonging to this complex have been preserved.
