Former SA-Prison Volkshaus

Here, on the former Rosinenstraße 3/4, the SPD and its affiliated organizations, such as the Socialist Workers Youth and the Volkstheater Association, opened the Volkshaus in 1902 in the middle of what was then a working-class neighborhood. This building was used for socializing, cultural events, courses and learning political strategies. The building had large halls, a café and association rooms. In 1920, the expanded building was taken over by a consumer cooperative. In late March 1933, the SA occupied the Volkshaus. They abused it for several months as a prison and torture center, where they also murdered people. The war-damaged building was demolished and later became a traffic school for young people.
