Former German Fliegerhorst Mannheim Sandhofen

Originally this airport was a Zeppelin airport during the First World War, but after the First World War it became a commercial airport.
From 1937 all commercial flying activities were stopped and the airfield was turned into a Fliegerhorst and several Jagdgeschwader units were stationed here during the war including III/JG53 of which Werner Mölders was the commander.
Later in the war a small POW camp was created here.
After the war, the Americans took over and expanded it into Coleman barracks.
