Wetterau-Main-Tauber-Stellung - Panzerwerk 188

The Wetterau-Main-Tauber-Stellung was a German defence line built between 1936 and 1938. The line of bunkers (with a total lenght of 69km and consisted of 312 bunkers, 2 water filled anti-tank trenches, 6 concrete foundations for observation towers and 11 concrete foundations for machine gun turrets) ran from Büdingen to Dettingen through the Wetterau and from Dettingen to Röllfeld along the Main. The main task of this defence line was to stop a possible French advance in the inland of Germany. In the north of the line, from Eichzell to Büdingen through the Wetterau, the line continues for 18km as a barrier line without bunkers. The same to the south of the line from Röllfeld to Wertheim along the Main and from Wertheim to Weikerstheim along the Tauber for 86km.
