Crash Site Avro Lancaster MkIII PB129

At this spot, on 26 September 1944, Lancaster MKIII, registration PB129 crashed after being hit by FLAK fire. The aircraft belonging to 451 Squadron RCAF had taken off that day from RAF Gransden Lodge and came down in Ambleteuse, which by now already belonged to Allied territory. In 2014, 70 years after the crash, this commemorative plaque was placed in the presence of some relatives.

Of the 8 crew members, 3 survived the crash. The 5 killed are buried at the Calais Canadean War Cemetary in Leubringhen.
