Memorial 6th Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76

German Memorial 2nd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76 was inaugurated on 5 October 1890, It is a mighty, 5 m. high monument, which has unfortunately been visited several times by vandalists. The entire area where the monument is located makes a neglected impression.

The 2nd IR No. 76 was deployed at the beginning of the war for the coastal defense of Northern Germany, arriving in Metz on 4 September 1870. and on 9 September 1870, they took part in their first battle at Ars-Laquenexy, which is probably why the monument was placed here, for their other main battles took place more in the interior of France.
