German Memorial of the 6th Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76

The monument of the 2nd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76 was inaugurated on October 5, 1890,
It is a mighty, 5 m. high monument, which has unfortunately been visited several times by vandalists,
the entire area where the monument is located makes a neglected impression.

The 2nd IR No. 76 was deployed at the beginning of the war for the coastal defense of Northern Germany,
arriving in Metz on September 4, 1870. and on September 9, 1870 they took part in their first battle at Ars-Laquenexy,
which is probably why the monument was placed here, for their other main battles took place more in the interior of France.
