"l'Energie Fauchée" is a reproduction of the work of Léon Messiaen from 1915.
It shows a young man who has withdrawn into himself, apparently in search of himself.
On the pedestal hangs the text:
"Work of Léon MESSIAEN
Born in 1884 in the North. The young Léon Messiaen, uncle of the famous composer, arrived at the age of 16 in Aube, where his family settled in La Chaise, in Soulainois. At the age of 18, he entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris where he won the first prize for sculpture. Mobilized, he campaigned in Lorraine, in Pas-de-Calais and then in Verdun. He was wounded three times during the fighting. He then volunteered for the Eastern Army, where he was killed on September 17, 1918 at the age of 33 by a grenade explosion in Serbia."
Messiaen's original work is kept in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Troyes.
The city made this copy to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. The official inauguration of this statue took place on 11 November 2018.
