On the occasion of the centenary of the First World War, the city of Vienne organised a range of exhibitions and activities.
One of these was the inauguration in 2016 of a gigantic 180 m² fresco overlooking the station platform.
This place is symbolic because it is where the soldiers left during the war.
The fresco is inspired by a photograph from 1914, in which we see a train leaving with hundreds of soldiers on board, smiling and holding French flags.
The mural also includes the names of the 763 Viennois who died for France between 1914 and 1918.
