This statue is in memory of Karl Friedrich Friesen, born September 25, 1784 in Magdeburg and killed March 16, 1814 in Lalobbe (FR). He was a Republican freedom fighter and also co-founder of German gymnastics. A multisport competition was named after him “the Friesenkampf” which later took the name Classical pentathlon. He is buried at the Invalidenfriedhof in Berlin.
