In the cemetery of Saint Gilles in Liège there is a central monument which also serves as a collective tomb for some soldiers from both World Wars and veterans.
Buried at the monument are;
CORIN Jean, age 22, soldier with the 5th Line Regiment, killed in action at Rotselaar on September 12, 1914.
FRANÇOIS Alphonse, age 25, soldier with the 8th Line Regiment, died of injuries sustained by shrapnel at Woumen on September 27, 1918.
HEMMER Jean, age 33, soldier with the T.A.S.I. (Troupes administratives du service d'indentance) administrative logistic support, died of illness (pneumonia, possibly from Spanish flu) in the military hospital of Le Hâvre (F) on November 28, 1918 ! He still lived through the armistice, but died two weeks later.
JEHIN Denis, age 29, soldier with the 1st regiment Carbiniers, died at Berlare on October 5, 1914.
KEMPENERS Jean, age 28, soldier with the 3rd regiment Chasseurs a Pied, died at Kaaskerke on June 1, 1915.
KEMS Auguste, age 33, soldier with the 2nd regiment Artillery, died of illness (Spanish flu) in Faymoreau (F) on October 18, 1918.
LANGENACKER Jean, age 24, war volunteer, soldier with the Engineers, died in the ambulance at Calais (F) of wound poisoning on October 5, 1915.
LEDENT Thomas, age 25, soldier with the 6th Line Regiment, killed in action at Wilsele on September 12, 1914.
NAVEZ Denis, age 31, soldier with the 8th Line Regiment, died of illness (influenza and pneumonia, possibly Spanish flu) in the military hospital of Bourbourg (F) on Sept. 26, 1918.
NUNROTH Martin, age 24, soldier with the 14th Linieregiment, died of illness (pneumonia, possibly due to Spanish flu) in the hospital of a prisoner of war camp at Mannheim (D) on July 10, 1918.
STRAUVEN Louis, age 23, soldier in the 3rd Carabiniers regiment, killed in the trench “des Canards” at Saint-Joris on April 19, 1918.
THISENS René, age 27, soldier in the artillery of garrison of the forts around Liege (Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège, A.F.L.), died from the effects of influenza (possibly Spanish influenza) at Odesse (D) on November 7, 1918.
VANHAKENDOVER Alphonse, age 25, soldier with the 22nd Line Regiment, died of wounds sustained at Neerlinter on August 18, 1914.
WILKIN Gilles, age 31, soldier with the 2nd regiment Chasseurs a Pied, died of diabetes in the Belgian military hospital at Auberville -la-Renault (F) on October 7, 1917.
Also buried in a private grave in the cemetery;
BOULET René, age 30, sergeant in the 21st Linieregiment, died in captivity at Ebelsbach (D) by an accident 2 days after his 30th birthday ! on July 28, 1944. Transferred to Belgium in 1950, and reburied.
LHONNEUX Ch., age 25, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, killed in the first days of war of the Great War on August 6, 1914 at Seraing (Liège).
