Belgian War Graves Cemetery Sclessin

The Ougrée-Sclessin cemetery in Liège contains several war graves of Belgian soldiers from both Worldwars.

Buried are among others.

The Dumoulin brothers

DUMOULIN René, age 23, major (pilot) with the R.A.F. , as squadron leader killed over the Mediterranean Sea, his body has never been found. This grave therefore is a cenotaph.

DUMOULIN Marcel, age 18 ! member of the resistance, died in captivity in lager AII at Stolberg in Germany, on November 1, 1944.

NEDE de MÉVERGNIES Michel, age 19 !, sub-lieutenant (pilot) with the R.A.F., crashed over Rothbury (Todstead Farm) in Northumberland (GB) on April 9, 1943.

TAVERNIERS Macel, age 24, corporal in the 1st Regiment of Frontier Wheelers, died as a result of an accident on May 10, 1940, the 1st day of the 2nd World War for Belgium, at Hergenrath/ Kettenis. As frontier cyclists, these soldiers served on the border with Germany. Their duties included manning the forward positions, small bunkers, during threats of war. For an example of these small bunkers see bunker O at Hombourg located near Hergenrath. By bicycle, they moved between the bunkers and their barracks.
