This hotel was built in 1920 by order of Wouter Jager. At the end of September 1938 the building burned down and Wouter Jager had a new hotel built. He sold the building in September 1940 to the NSB, of which he was a member. Later in the war the hotel was requisitioned by the German army and used in 1943 to house a searchlight crew. Between 1944 and 1945 a transport unit of the NSKK was housed in the hotel. After the liberation of Markelo the building was requisitioned by the Canadians who stayed here until July 1945.
