Stumbling Stones Havenpad 22

This brass memorial plaque (Stolperstein or stumbling stone), placed on 7-11-2019, commemorates:

*JACOB AUSSEN (born 1894, deported 1943, died 17-9-1943 Auschwitz)
    *KLARA AUSSEN-WINTER (born 1895, deported 1943, perished 31-3-1945 Auschwitz)
*HERTA AUSSEN (born 1926, deported 1943, murdered 17-9-1943 Auschwitz)
*ANNA SOPHIE AUSSEN (born 1924, deported 1943, murdered 17-9-1943 Auschwitz)

This Stolperstein lies here for Jewish war victims, persecuted, deported and/or murdered in World War II. The Aussen family - father Jacob, mother Klara and daughters Anna Sophie and Herta - were deported from Wijhe and deported via Westerbork to Auschwitz in 1943. Father and the two daughters (aged 17 and 19) died on 17 September that year. Klara died on 2 March 1945 from the effects of the medical experiments she underwent in Auschwitz.

"Stolpersteine” is an art project for Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism). Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the sidewalk in front of the last voluntary residence of (usually Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the victim’s, date of birth, and fate. By doing this, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He cites the Talmud: “A human being is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten.”
