Bunker Belt Bruggenhoofd Gent - Rear Line Bunker B31

Belgian bunker, part of the Ghent Bridge Head. This defensive position was constructed between 1934 and 1938 eight kilometers south of Ghent. Its construction was part of the fortification policy that Belgium pursued after the First World War.
The actual bridgehead was made up of two resistance nests – Betsberg and Muntekouter – and three support points – Semmerzake, Eke and Astene.
The resistance nests and support points were connected to each other via a curtain, consisting of three lines of defense.

There are 3 bunkers on the Bottelare territory.
The B31 is a rear line bunker between Muntekouter and Betsberg, between B30 (320 m) and B32 (700 m). It is positioned in an angle with B30 to provide a larger field of view and shooting range.
The bunker consisted of one room and an lock and had the appearance of a small brick house. It was originally provided as standard for the installation of a Maxim machine gun. In addition, it was also equipped for mounting a Hotchkiss or Colt machine gun.

The bunker is now located next to an electricity cabin at the intersection of Poelstraat-Stas De Richellaan. It is on private property and is only visible to a limited extent.

Detailed information about this bunker belt can be found on the Bunkergordel Bruggenhoofd Gent site.
