Originally commemorating only the fallen soldiers of World War I, this monument has commemorated all victims (military and civilians) of both world wars since the end of World War II. The monument in the form of a sandstone block seven metres long, two and a half metres high and two metres deep, depicts a dying soldier stretching towards a hovering eagle. In 2001, the monument was changed from a standing to a reclining position.
NOTE: Photo 2 shows the situation before 2001.
