Memorial Gerrit Vermeulen
Doesburg resistance hero Gerrit Vermeulen risked his own life in April 1945 to retrieve the Canadian soldiers who were just outside the city. Doesburg was liberated partly because of this. To honour Vermeulen, a plaque with his photo now hangs on the city gate.
