War memorial to fallen German soldiers from Robertville

This monument at Robertville commemorates the fallen German soldiers during the 1st World War.

Robertville is located in Eupen-Malmedy. This area passed to Belgium with the Treaty of Versailles as part of the reparations. Today it is still a German-speaking area.

The strange thing, however, is that all the names are written in French. Probably under the condition that the names came in French on the monument, the population was allowed to erect this monument on May 18, 1924. The monument also does not refer to German soldiers or victims, but rather to the heros and martyrs of Robertville in general.

At the Volksbond Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge you can find the names in German. (Not all names could be found in the German register, which still has many gaps or data are only partially present.)

The fallen soldiers are listed on the monument in order of the day they died. Below they are listed in alphabetical order.
