Bunker Bloc VII fort Battice

This is bunker Bloc VII of Fort Battice.

The bunker was originally equipped with two cast iron turrets but these were removed and sold as scrap in later years when the fort was dismantled. In their place, two steel cauldrons were installed to give the block the appearance it had in its early days. Clearly visible is the niche left by the original larger turrets. Bloc III on the east side of the fort does still have its two original turrets and indicates what Bloc VII must have looked like with turrets.

Bloc VII was a bunker that could defend the tank trench to the north and south. From the two turrets, the fort could defend itself against attackers coming from the west and still on the plateau in front of the fort. The bunker has two floors. On the first floor there was a machine gun on the north and south side. On the second floor, in addition to the two turrets, there were also two searchlights. These were placed inside the turret. One to the south and one to the north of the tank trench.
