Bunker Bloc 1 Fort Battice

This is bunker Bloc 1 of Fort Battice.

This block had to defend the adjacent railroad line. This railroad line is now a bicycle path and still runs at the exact same place. It also defended the bloc located a few dozen meters in front of it bloc Jonkay. This bloc was also equipped with a door. This was not too entrance to the fort but an exit for patrols. The main entrance was located at bloc d'Entree.

The bloc was equipped with on the ground floor a 60 mm cannon, a machine gun and a searchlight. The machine gun was located in the bloc and had to protect the bloc if the enemy managed to enter through the door. The inner door in photo 2, the slatted door, is the original door and was also used in the bunkers of the PFL. The exterior door was probably damaged during the war and never reinstalled.

Also located on the 1st floor was a 60 mm cannon and searchlight.

During the fighting for the fortress, this bunker was severely damaged. It was hit by a bomb dropped by a Stuka dive-bomber and caused a heavy explosion. This killed 26 soldiers on impact. The battle traces are still visible. The fort was able to resist for 12 days but finally had to give in.
