This plaque commemorates the heroic act of Jackie Jansen and calls on the people of Liège not to forget him.
He was a member of the “Clarence” resistance group.
This resistance group was active in the province of Liège and was particularly concerned with gathering intelligence. Upon the withdrawal of the German troops on September 8, 1944, he had the Belgian tricolor flown from the steeple of the Sacre-Coeur church in the Robermont district of Liège. It is unclear whether he was shot by the Germans on Sept. 8 or Sept. 10, 1944. Given that the liberation of Liège began on Sept. 8, this date is the most plausible.
Jacky Jansen is remembered on the monument to the resistance group “Clarence” near the former fort le Chartreuse in Liège, as well as on a monument in the Bois-de-Breux (Grivenée) commune of Liège.
JANSEN Jacky, age 16 !, resistance member, shot dead by German troops on September 8, 1944, reburied after the war in the military part of the cemetery Robermont in Liège.
