Westwall - Remains Bunker Roth bei Prüm

On February 27, 1945, the 87th US Infantry Division was prepared with the preparation to break the Westwall at Ormont. They were stationed on a 7 km front front between Scheid and Kobscheid.
The Westwall here had 2 lines of defense in which the first consisted of dragon teeth barriers with barbed wire at the foot of the hills and in the forests on the hills there were bunkers who could give interlinked fire. In addition, there were also mine fields and at the intersections and the roads there were roadblocks.
After the 346th Infantry Regiment was stuck on a road block in the 27th of February where nowadays the L20 and B265 cross each other, on February 28, the 347th Infantry Regiment (3rd battalion, Compagnie K and L) was instructed to tidy up the Roadblock and the bunkers who defended the intersection.
At this location is 1 of the bunkers of the Westwall who stopped the attack of the 346th Regiment on 27 February before they could turn to the left to go the L20 in the direction of Ormont. In the immediate vicinity were several other bunkers and a minefield. The bunkers could support each other through interlocking fire.
At the intersection, the attack axle turned to the left, where the 2 companies each continued one side of the road through the forests, eliminating bunkers but also leaving certain bunkers for the subsequent troops.
For the breaking of the Westwall and the attack on Ormont, Compagnie K, 374th Infantry regiment received a presidential unit citation.
