Turret for the 75 mm canon, fort Flémalle

This is what remains of the right turret with one of the four 75 mm guns.

These guns were used for self-defense of the fort. At the time of World War I, they were 57 mm guns. When the fort was rearmed between the two World Wars, they were replaced for the heavier 75 mm ones.

The turret was located at the end of the right wing of the fort's central massif. This wing included the kitchen, fuel oil storage, a warehouse, accommodation rooms and latrines. The gun turret was partially located above the latrines and could be reached through a separate tunnel.

After World War II when the fort no longer had any strategic value for the defense of Belgium, the turret was dismantled and sold as scrap metal. What remains is the concrete enclosure, around which the goats now (spring 2025) graze.
