Commonwealth War Graves Vignory

On the General Cemetery in Vignory are seven Commonwealth war graves. These are the graves of Sgt A.D.Baker, F/O N.A.Davies, P/O J.e.H.Davies, Sgt D.A.Donoghue, Sgt D.B.MacKenzie, Sgt C.M.Pyke en Sgt G.Taylor.
On 12 July 1944 at 21:30 departed from airbase RAF Elsham Wolds, the Lancaster LM647 with the mission to bomb the railways in Revigny, France to avoid the supply of German war materials to Normandy. After D-Day these types of operations were performed to support the advancing Allies. For unknown reasons it crashed into Vignory. In the crash, all seven crew members got killed, they are buried in this cemetery.
