Commonwealth War Graves Véel

On the Churhyard in Véel are six Commonwealth war graves. These are the graves of F/S F.W.Bull, F/O A.J.Faulkner, P/O J.A.Harrison, Sgt H.H.Howles, sgt J.M.Mitchinson and Sgt L.P.Whelan.
On 12 July 1944 at 21:34 departed from airbase RAF Elsham Wolds, the Lancaster PA999 with the mission to bomb the railways in Revigny, France to avoid the supply of German war materials to Normandy. After D-Day these types of operations were performed to support the advancing Allies. At 0150, the aircraft was shot down by a German night-fighter, the aircraft crashed in Véel. In the crash, six crew members were killed, they are buried in this cemetery. One crew member survived the crash and managed to escape, he was in hiding till the liberation.
