Remembrance Cross Pastor Josef Grimm

On 28 April 1945, Josef Grimm, pastor of Götting and Georg Hangl, teacher of Götting, were shot by SS-soldiers because they replaced the swastika flag on the church-tower for the flag of Bavaria, one day before the change of power in Bavaria.

Josef Grimm was outside the village and the soldiers went looking for him, but came back without him. After a search by villagers, his body, tortured and then murdered with two shots in the neck, was found under a pile of pine branches. He still had his rosary in his left hand. At the location where his body was found is now a memorial cross.
