Houwitser M108 Desselgem

This Houwister M108 is a reminder of the casualties of the Battle of the Leie from 24 to 26 May 1940.

There is an information board on the tank with a text about the Leie Bridge at the top.Below it hang two copper plates.
At the top:
"In memory of the fallen of the
Battle of the Leie
May 24-26, 1940
Donated by the 6th Artillery on the occasion of
30 years of affiliation
with the municipality of Waregem
September 1997"

Bottom:
"This howitzer M108
which replaces the previous monument, the dome
was donated by
the Artillery Department in Brasschaat
during the celebration of V-Day on
May 11, 2008
for confirmation
40 years of affiliation with the city of Waregem"
