Concentration Camp Gusen

Gusen concentration camp consisted of three camps: Gusen I, II and III. The camp started on 25 May 1938. When is was liberated by American troops on 5 May 1945, there were over 20,000 inmates. The death toll of Gusen is 44,602 victims.

The major part of the concentration camp is demolished and there are now houses. There is a memorial at the old crematorium and since 2004 a visitor's centre with a permanent exhibition about the concentration camp. Of the camp itself are, scattered throughout the village and now used as residence, two prison barracks, the prison brothel and several other buildings maintained.

Inside the crematorium-building is a wall with remembrance plaques.
