Memorial Jewish Cemetery Ottensen

The Jewish cemetery of Ottensen existed from 1663 on. In 1939 and 1942, the Nazwas built two air-raid shelters on the cemetery. After the war, it was not possible to reconstruct the cemetery anymore.

Because a Jewish cemetery should remained untouched, it is decided with the built of the Mercado-shoppingcenter to cover the cemetery with a concrete plate and replace the planned undergound garage to the roof. Inside the shoppingcenter is a memorial telling the history of the cemetery and the names of the 4500 people buried here.
