The Maginot-Ouvrage Rimplas is part of the Secteur Fortifié des Alpes-Maritimes and is one of the larger works
The crew consisted of 334 soldiers, non-commissioned officers and 8 officers. They were part of the 84th BAF, 167th RAP and the 215th Engineer Battalion.
Construction lasted from 1928 to 1940. It was the first built ouvrage of the Maginot Line. It has a completely different structure and layout (in three levels) than the other ouvrages. Due to all kinds of problems and changes in the construction plans, the construction costs were enormous. The ouvrage defended the valley of the Tinée and the Valdeblore. In 1940 it was hardly shelled and saw little or no action.
