Maginot Line - Fortified Position Col des Fourches

This fortified position was constructed between 1931 and 1935 as part of the Secteur fortifié du Dauphiné and consists of several blocks. The position was attacked by Italian troops between June 21 and June 23, 1940. At 4 p.m. on June 23, 1940, the Italian Alpini surrendered. In 1944 the position was attacked again, this time by German troops. Several attacks were carried out between September 14 and 16, 1944 but proved unsuccessful.
