This plaque commemorates Pierre Semard who was born in Bragny-sur-Saône on February 15, 1887. Pierre was a trade unionist, secretary-general of the workers union of the French national railways and leader of the French Communist Party. Pierre was convicted in 1939 for three years in prison on suspicion of embezzlement. On orders from the Germans on March 7, 1942, he was shot in the prison of Evreux, he is buried in the cemetery Pere Lachaise in Paris. In France, many streets, schools and parks named after him. There are also many monuments across the country which honor him.
