Memorial Menke Koos van der Beek

Plaque for member of the resistance Menke Koos van der Beek.
It is placed in the wall of City Hall, right of the entrance to the former Police-office.

The inscription on the plaque:
In memory of:
Menke Koos van der Beek
Sergeant of the municipal police of Zierikzee
Born 23-11-1918 in Tegelen
joined the police in Zierikzee at 1-8-1941
Put to death by the German challenger to the Dutch
freedom and people on December 10, 1944
His young life and happiness
Remained faithful until death to the
people in distress and pressure.

Menke Koos van der Beek was one of those condemned to death, who is executed by hanging in Moermond Castle in Renesse and is buried there.
