Memorial Short Stirling EF191 WP-H RAF 90th Sqn.

This memorial commemorates the crash of the Short Stirling EF191 with registration and code WP-H.

The plane belonged to the 90th squadron of the Royal Air Force.

On 1 December 1943, in the afternoon at 1513 hours, the plane departed from Wratting Common in England in order to lay mines in the Kattegat.

Near the Danish west coast EF191 was attacked by a German Ju-88C-6 (construction number 750371) flown by Oberleutnant Gerhard Rath of 4/NJG3 who had taken off from the German island of Sylt. This attack was fatal and the EF191 crashed at 1752 hours at Hemmet in denmark. The entire crew got killed.

The crew consisted of:

W/Op. Sgt. John H. Flack
Air Bomber F/Sgt. Clark E. Quickfall (Royal Canadian Air Force)

Air Gunner Sgt. Ronald G. Whitmarch

They all are buried in the cemetery Fovrfelt (Fovrfeld gravlund) in Esbjerg.

The local population erected a monument at the crash site, in honor of the perished crew.
