Field Grave American Pilot Nantwich

Here are the remains of the American pilot 1st Lieutenant Arthur L. Brown buried, still inside his Thunderbolt plane. The Thunderbolt crashed here on 14 January 1944 and was not recoverable. The local community placed a grave/memorial stone on top of the spot where the wreckage and body is buried. The text on the grave stone reads:

"Here lies 1st Lieutenant/ Arthur L. Brown/ U.S.A.A.F./ aged 23 years/ of New York/ who crashed/ in his Thunderbolt/ to avoid this town/ Jan. 14th 1944/ With sympathy and respect"
