Commonwealth War Cemetery Kohima

Kohima War Cemetery lies on Garrison Hill, the former battlefield where the Japanese advance was stopped in April 1944 by the Alllied Forces. There are now 1,420 Commonwealth war graves of the Second World War here.

This plaque commemorates the soldiers and airmen who are buried on the Kohima War Cemetery. The text on the plaque reads:

"HERE AROUND THE
TENNIS COURT
OF THE DEPUTY
COMMISSIONER
LIE MEN WHO FOUGHT
IN THE BATTLE OF
KOHIMA
IN WHICH THEY
AND THEIR COMRADES
FINALLY HALTED
THE INVASION
OF INDIA
BY THE FORCES
OF JAPAN
IN APRIL 1944"
