Dossin Barracks Memorial Museum

Between 1942 and 1944 the Nazis used the Dossin barracks in Mechelen as a transit camp from where 26,000 Jews, Roma and Sinti were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau by means of 28 train-transports. Only about 5 % of the deported survived.
Today, the former barracks house a Memorial, a space for contemplation. In the new museum building, facing the former barracks, the story of persecution and deportation can be experienced by modern audio and visual means. Stories of exclusion, dis-crimination and mass-violence are told as well as stories of hope and resistance. We pause to think about past and present human rights violations.

This location is formerly known as "Jewish Museum of Deportation and Resistance".
