The "Toa Maru" was a Japanese cargo ship sunk on 31 January 1943 by the U.S.A.A.F. near the coast of Gizo. The ship was defended by Zero fighters and Aichi seaplanes.

It lies currently at the bottom of the sea at a depth of 38 meters (130 fsw). It can be reached by diving with diving equipment.
This shipwreck is still considered to be the last resting place for 13 killed Japanese seamen and soldiers. While diving at these sites, please treat human remains and their personal belongings with respect.
In 2011, the "Toa Maru" was named as one of the top 20 wreck dives in the world by Diver Magazine.
