The "USS Emmons (DD-457) was an U.S. Destroyer which participated in Operaton Overlord (invasion of Normandy) and Operation Dragoon (South-France). It departed on 19 March 1945 to clear seamines off Okinawa. USS Emmons was hit by five Kamikaze planes on 6 April 1945 during the Battle of Okinawa. It was sunk by USS Ellyson the next day to prevent prevent its falling into enemy hands.

This shipwreck is still considered to be the last resting place for 50 killed U.S. seamen and soldiers. While diving at this site, please treat human remains and their personal belongings with respect.
