Cmentarz Wojskowy

The Cmentarz Wojskowy is the largest Polish military cemetery in the world. It contains the graves of many Polish senior officers and other veterans who served in the First and Second World War. There are also large burial plots with the graves of WW2 victims.

There are also graves of veterans who fought in the 13th Internationale Brigade (also known as the XIII Dabrowski Brigade) on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War.

The Cmentarz Wojskowy contains the graves of thousands Polish resistance fighters and partisans who fell during the Second World War. They are buried in different plots, often designated by military unit. The majority of them fell in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944.

First World War
The plots A5, A7 and B7 are containing 650 Polish war graves from the First World War.

1918-1921
The Cmentarz Wojenny contains a plot with the graves of at least 2513 Polish soldiers who fell in the Battle of Warsaw in 1920. Another plot contains the graves of more than 50 Polish insurgents from 1918-1921

Second World War
The Cmentarz Wojskowy (military cemetery) of Warsaw contains the graves of 10,476 Polish soldiers who fell in 1939 and 1944-1945:

6,776 Polish soldiers and officers who fell in 1939. They are buried in the following plots:

A17, A25, B10, B21, B23, B25, B27, B28, C24, C25, C26, C27, C28, C30

3,700 Polish soldiers and officers of the LWP (Ludowe Wojsko Polskie: People's Army of Poland) who fell in the fighting for Warsaw and surrounding area's in the period 1944-1945.

The cemetery also contains:

- The graves of thousands of Polish Home Army fighters and partisans. Many fell in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944.

- Mass graves of 1937 Polish civilians from Warsaw who perished in the period 1941-1944.

- Plot ot 60 PPR members who were hanged in Warsaw on 16 October 1942.
