This memorial commemorates the airmen of the 73rd Bombardment Wing, who fell during the Second World War. The text on the memorial plaque reads:
"THIS MEMORIAL HONORS THE MEN WHO SERVED IN THE
73RD BOMBARDMENT WING
ON SAIPAN 1944-1945
TENTS AND QUONSET HUTS SHELTERING THE
WING'S 15,000 MEN WERE LOCATED HERE AND
TO THE EAST ALONG THIS OBYAN COAST.
FLYING B-29 SUPERFORTRESSES FROM ISLEY FIELD ON SAIPAN,
THE WING MADE HIGHLY EFFECTIVE USE OF STRATEGIC AIRPOWER.
ALONG WITH OTHER UNITS OF THE U.S. 20TH AIR FORCE IN THE
MARIANAS, THE 73RD SIGNIFICIANTLY INFLUENCED THE OUTCOME OF WORLD WAR II IN THE PACIFIC AREA.
1033 MEN OF THE 73RD WING MADE THE
SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR THEIR COUNTRY."
