Fort Flaut is a large fort (Gross Ouvrage) that was constructed between November 1931 and March 1935 as part of Secteur fortifié des Alpes-Maritimes. The garrison consisted of 296 soldiers and 7 officers of the 94th BAF and 167th RAP. It saw heavy combat in 1940 against the III Italian Corps.
