On the edge of the Wilhelminapark at the intersection of Wilhelminapark and Paul Windhausenweg in Breda stands this Panther D-Tank.
In 1945, the Polish liberators donated this tank to Breda in memory of the liberation of Breda on 29 October 1944 by General Maczek's 1st Polish Armoured Division. This tank is not Polish, but German-made.
The Panther tank in version D was built from January 1943 to September 1943. It was built in response to the much better-armoured Russian tanks. The Eastern Front needed a large number of tanks, which is why this tank was actually deployed too early. The developers were not given the time to develop it out, so newer versions were worked on until the end of the war. Of the version as it stands in Breda, 842 were built. In 2004, the tank in Breda was restored.
There is another version of a Panther tank in the Netherlands and that is the G version; it is in the museum in Overloon.
