At the entrance of the Yorkshire Air museum is a memorial for 77 Squadron RAF. On the wall behind the memorial are two plaques. The text on the left one is:
"TO BE, RATHER THAN SEEN"
THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED BY EX-MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF THE SQUADRON. REMEMBER WITH GRATITUDE THE MANY WHO PAID THE SUPREME SACRIFICE, AND GAVE THEIR LIVES SO THAT YOU AND I MAY NOW ENJOY THE BEAUTY AND PEACE OF THIS PLEASANT LAND.
"THOUGH I TAKE THE WINGS OF DARKNESS
AND REMAIN IN THE UTTERMOST PARTS OF THE SKY
- THY RIGHT HAND SHALL HOLD ME."
FROM PSALM 139.
The text on the right plaque is: PER ARDUA AD ASTRA and the locations where the squadron has been stationed during the period 1916 - 1958.
