Commonwealth War Graves Rotem

At the municipal cemetery in Rotem are three Commonwealth War Graves.
These are the graves of:

Sergeant (W.Op./Air Gnr.)Thomas William Archibald Crone, 969953, age 28.
Sergeant (Pilot) Kenneth Gray, 742207, age 24.
Sergeant (Obs.) Norman Brook Pell, 758164, age 26.

On May 17, 1941 at 2230 departed from Topcliffe airfield in England, the Whitley Z6578 with the mission: a raid over the city of Cologne in Germany. The aircraft was shot down over Belgium by the German night-fighter Ltn. Kurt Loos, 2./NJG 1 and crashed in Rotem. In the crash, three of the five crew members lost their lives, they were buried at this cemetery. The other two crew members were taken prisoner of war by the Germans.
