On the 25th February 1941 These men were on board a Lockheed-Hudson bomber T 9364 "Ypenburg" and were killed during takeoff from the airfield at Carew Cheriton. One member of the crew, J. Brugman Sergeant Pilot, the pilot of the plane survived the accident after having been slung from the plane It was later concluded that due to a combination of the plane not been completely de-iced and with it bomb load of 3250 pound bombs and full fuel load was to heavy and as the runway was rather short for this type of plane it clipped one of the buildings.
