Since the railway-bridge over the Maas river at Gennep was in German hands, on the 10th of May 1940 (around 04:30 AM) a German armoured train and goods train with 500 infantrymen were able to get through behind the Peel-Raamstelling.
Three quarters of an hour later the armoured train came back, probably to pick up reinforcements.
Because the Dutch soldiers had placed asperge roadblocks and land mines in the meantime the train derailed.
These Asperges are located about 100 meters behind other Asperges.
