This coastal battery was originally constructed from 1882 to 1883 and was modernised in 1939, before it fell into the hands of the Germans in 1940. The Germans made Taillefer their main defence point of Belle-Île-en-Mer, adding 4 more big guns. There were also a number of concrete bunkers and tobruks built around the battery.
