Thomas D. Howie Memorial

The memorial commemorated the killed commander Thomas D. Howie. He died on July 17, 1944.

Text on the memorial:
He fell at the head of his troops as he was liberating our city. His last words were... "To Saint-Lô"

Thomas Howie was commander of the 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment 29th Infantry Division. He was killed on 17 July by a mortar shell during a battalion attack he personally led on the town of Saint-Lo. For this action, he was posthumously awarded multiple decorations.
