Memorial US Forces

Erected by the people of Yeovil
in grateful commemoration of
the American troops who were
stationed in and around our town
prior to the D-Day landings on
6th June 1944, many of whom
sacrificed their lives
in the cause of freedom


Around 12,000 American servicemen where stationed in and around Yeovil prior to D-Day. They were billeted at Barwick Park, Houndstone Camp, Salthouse Lane Fair Ground and in the villages of Martock, Bradford Abbas and Mudford.
Lloyds Bank, upon which the plaque is mounted, acted as the payroll department for the American troops and financed the plaque.

American units stationed in and around Yeovil prior to D-Day, many of which participated in the landings on Omaha beach on 6th June 1944.
